Cozumel, Costa Maya & Grand Cayman - which is the best choice for
silver jewellery purchases? Ballpark - what would a man's silver ring
cost? How do you know you are getting good silver (as opposed to
junk!) Thanks.

Cozumel
Sterling silver is 92.5% silver. A good piece should be marked 925.

Just stay away from Arte Joyera in Cozumel. I wrote to VISA about them
overcharging me for some Tanzanite jewelry I purchased. Our bank said it
was too complicated to fight and refunded us the overcharge directly to
our card, the bank ate the overage.
It is on the main strip and don't think it was the "peso rate" at the
time either.

Most places sell it by weight, so if you want a thin ring it will cost much
less then a huge belt buckle turned into a ring. Good silver will be marked
925 if it's pure, and if I remember right, in Mexico the word plata may be
stamped on it, which doesn't mean plated, it means silver.
