Re........................Yodaya-Ywa in Mandalay
In the 1930's, a Thai Prince visited Mandalay and wrote about the Yodaya-
Ywa in Mandalay. When the invading Burmese Army destroyed Ayutthaya
in 1767 , they confiscated the entire harem (girl-friends) of the King of
Thailand and brought them back to Mandalay.
The Thai Prince found a village near Mandalay called Yodaya-Ywa where
the descendents of the Thai hostages live. In addition to members of the
Thai Royal Family, Thai dancers and Thai craftsmen, we're also brought
back to Mandalay. This is why the traditional Burmese dancing is so
Similar to Thai dancing.
In the 1950's,we could tell a college co-ed was from Mandalay if she was
wearing gold anklets on her feet. This presumeably is the Thai influence
on Mandalay culture. You still find girls wearing gold anklets in
Cambodian dancing troupes. Some say Thai dancing is copied from
Cambodian dancing.
Many in Mandalay has historical and blood ties to Thailand. Even Major-
General Kyaw Win, a native son of Mandalay, could be a distant member
of the Thai Royal Family.
During Burma's darkest hour, Thai businessman looted Burma with
undisclosed illegall logging and fishing deals with equally corrupt
Burmese generals. But there are also many Thais,es5pecially THE
NATION and BANGKOK POST, that never wavered in their suppovt of
the Burmese democracy Movement.
Democracies do not make war on each other. This is why the
Government of Thailand should support the Burmese democracy
movement. But Thaksin and Chavalit, blinded by greed and held hostage
by their business deals in Burma, is pursuing policies that is harming
the friendship between the two countries.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The end.
USA and EURO also can not make good friendship.
Even though, burmese people elected party, NLD, those can not make good
friendship too.
Who will be good friendship with those illegal generals? ( those ****
